My Field Trips

2/12/09- Today we went to the Sycamore Park Community Center, and it was amazing. I am glad that Farmington is growing and improving in such a way, that we recognize how important our children are, and have created such a place for them to meet and feel safe after school. If you have not been there and met the staff, I highly recommend it.

2/19/09- Today's field trip took me to Enlace (in-loss-a). This is another place in Farmington that I was unaware of. The staff were definitely passionate about what they do. I felt that this would be a great resource for me as a teacher. I could see the benefits for my spanish speaking students and their parents.

2/26/09- Today we went to the Farmington Nature Center, and it was a beautiful day. The Nature Center is located off of Browning Parkway, and behind the big red barn. They have so much to offer, and have grown and added on to the experience since they first opened. I really liked the friendly staff and the knowledge of the wildlife around the center. I plan on taking my own kids there many times this summer. It is a great resource for schools and families alike.

3/05/09- Happy Birthday Ami! This was a refreshing trip in more ways than one. I really like meeting in all of these different places.

3/12/09- Today's fieldtrip was to the Aztec Public Library. Angela Watkins was wonderful, and diffently knew her stuff. I really enjoy meeting people who are fun loving and have great personalities. One of the things that she said that I really like was, "Success is not a persons title, but the steps he or she has taken to get there". Angela showed us that she really loves her community and serving the young people that come there.

3/19/09- The only problem with going to the E-3 Children's Museum, was the fact that I did not get to play with the dino's. Wow! What more can I say about Tryphenia B. Peele-Eady. Her sense of humor, and spirit make her a force to be reckoned with. I really love how she is an open book when it comes to her thoughts about tough and touchy subjects. One of my favorite things that she said that night was, "We are all culturally and linguistcally diverse learners, but we are not all from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds". I could spend hours listening to her speak.

3/26/09- Spring Break

4/02/09- I have passed the Navajo Preparatory School for the last 15 years, and have always wanted to see and learn more about it. John Tohtsoni was a great host, and I enjoyed hearing him tell the history of the place before jumping straight into the here and now. It is wonderful that our area provides the opportunity for these great people to learn about their history and language. I had orginally thought that the school was for K-12. I would not mind teaching there myself.

4/09/09- What a treat to sit and eat through an entire class. This is my style of learning. I really liked sitting in an atmosphere like that at La Michoacana on 20th street. The smells and taste allowed me to go to Mexico without leaving Farmington.

4/16/09- Today we went to the LDS Church on Apache street to view the Geneology section of the church. What a wonderful rescoure right here in Farmington. I will really enjoy going there and delving into my own family history.

4/30/09- We met today at SJC to learn how to edit a movie from a camera. It was really nice since I have to do this very thing for a final in another class. Michelle Day was a fountain of knowledge and taught us alot, even if it was rather quick. She did however give us her phone number for assitance any time day or night. What a great rescoure she is!
